Small is not always beautiful

Article Abstract:

Many people feel that they would like to move from their family home to a smaller property once their children have left home. However, such a move can bring significant challenges. It is often necessary to become much more ruthless about throwing away unused possessions once you live in a smaller house, and you may have to accept that certain items of furniture will not be suitable for a smaller house. You may also be forced to make the adjustment to living closer to your neighbours.

Prices: up, up and away, or hold on tight for a bumpy landing?

Article Abstract:

It is likely that house prices will not rise as sharply in the UK in 1998 as they did in 1997. This will be the result of overpricing on some properties, stamp duty rises in Apr 1998 and uncertainties in the stock market. The house market has been very volatile in 1997, but will probably be more settled in 1998, with growth being more widely spread. House prices are predicted to rise by an average of 9% across the UK, with price rises in central London, England, at 4%.
