Sheer Gaul

Article Abstract:

French food manufacturers have been using illegally imported UK feed for many years, according to Jose Bove, a leader of the Confederation Paysanne, a small union of French farmworkers. He has campaigned on this and many other issues, with his campaigning activities having included grazing his sheep under the Eiffel Tower. Most recently, he led a group of people in dismantling a new McDonald's outlet in the town of Millau, France, in protest about high US taxes on Roquefort cheese and other French products. He believes that each country, or group of countries, should be able to determine its own policy on food safety.

By George!

Article Abstract:

Writer David Bret has attracted considerable controversy with his biography of singer George Formby, who died in 1961. He presents Formby as an adulterer, and also claims that he had a period of morphine addiction. This portrayal of Formby has caused particular concern among members of the George Formby Society, who meet every three months in Blackpool, England, to celebrate Formby's life. Bret's book contains information, the sources of which are not revealed, that has surprised even committed Formby fans.
