Transatlantic flights will gradually resume on Sep 15, 2001, following the terrorist attacks on New York, NY, and Washington, DC. Many hundreds of Americans and Canadians remain trapped in the UK. There will be stricter security procedures when flights resume.

Applause greets take-off of first US flight to Britain

Article Abstract:

American Airlines has made the first flight from the US to the UK following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. There was extremely tight security, and passengers were tense. Many people still wish to return to the US from the UK.

Slashed services, job cuts and falling shares: The airline industry in crisis

Airlines across the world have been severely affected by the terrorist attacks in the US. Swissair has been forced to suspend all flights after running out of money to purchase fuel, while Virgin Atlantic is cutting 1,200 jobs and reducing flights to North America by 20% and British Airways will lose 6,700 jobs.
