So where were you on Monday night?

Article Abstract:

Television audiences are analysed in the UK through the use of special equipment in 54,000 households selected as being representative of all social groups. This records exactly what is being watched in each household, and this data is used as a basis to assess the overall size of the viewing audience. Viewers' opinions can have a significant impact on what is broadcast, and there have been cases where a single complaint to the Independent Television Commission has sparked a change in editorial policy for a particular programme.
