Sports clothing market is worth [pounds sterling]1.6bn and accounts for about 6% of the total clothing market. The main players in the market are the obig threeo- Nike, Reebok and Adidas. Consumer patterns indicate that sports clothes serve both functional and fashion purposes. They are bought not only by sports-participants, but also by non-participants who wish to look sporty or desire to be identified with branded clothes. The market as such is forecast to be bleak with not much growth in the early 2000s.
