Stability is the key to success

Article Abstract:

There has been rapid economic growth in Turkey, but this has brought sharply rising inflation. Political instability has meant that governments have been unable to introduce the strict measures required to deal with inflation, for fear of damaging their popularity. However, the current government has announced a programme of tax reforms aimed at cutting the budget deficit and accelerating the sale of state-owned companies. It is standing firm against calls for an early general election in 1998, and this will improve political stability.

The secret of success is candour and clarity

Article Abstract:

New legislation establishing the operational independence of the Bank of England creates a new institutional framework for monetary policy. This puts high standards of openness and transparency at the very centre of economic policy in the UK. In this way, it reflects a wider international trend towards open policy-making. As the world economy becomes more global, governments can only gain credibility through clear long-term policy goals and firmly established rules for monetary and fiscal policy.

The biggest secret of my success

Article Abstract:

Singer Charlotte Kelly recalls that she did not really enjoy her childhood in Coventry, England, especially as her contemporaries were unkind to her about her very poor eyesight. However, she also feels that her experiences in Coventry played a significant role in making her the person she now is. She has some sight, but relies heavily on sound and vibe, and enjoys being able to hear things that are not audible to people with good eyesight.
