Article Abstract:

The disagreements over the Maastricht treaty in the UK have damaged other countries' opinion of the country. The length of time it took to come to an agreement is amazing for the supposedly excellent British democratic system. The House of Commons took the unnecessary step of waiting for a positive Danish referendum before completing the UK procedure. The time delay enabled the Conservative rebels to get organised. The treaty affects the UK's future in the EC, but the UK does not have the right to stop the other member states from becoming a community.

11am, 3 September 1939 'This country is now at war with Germany. We are ready.'

Article Abstract:

Britain declared war on Germany after Germany invaded Poland. German leader, Adolf Hitler, was a physically small man who was a powerful mob orator. Austria and Czechoslovakia were invaded before Poland. Hitler supported Francisco Franco in his war against the Spanish government. German aircraft were tested in Spain by Hitler against Spain's government, which feared that European democracies as a whole were uder threat unless France and Britain acted to prevent it.

A Euro-sceptic? Churchill? Never

Article Abstract:

It has been widely claimed in the media in the UK recently that Winston Churchill was anti-European. This is in fact a misguided view. Churchill emphasised the need to recreate a united Europe, and called for the building of a United States of Europe. He did not in the immediate post-war period see the UK as being a full member of a united Europe, and this is the point which has been taken up by Eurosceptics.
