Surviving on spam

Article Abstract:

Internet users now receive an extremely wide range of junk electronic mail. In the majority of cases, this electronic mail is totally unrelated to their interests or to any purchases they may have made online. Junk electronic mail tends to make very attractive offers, such as ways of making a great deal of money, but it is not possible to be sure about the reputation of its source. Those who become frustrated by junk electronic mail may wish to consider submitting their name to a service which will remove it from the list distributed to its members.

An absolutely fabulous idea

Article Abstract:

It is important to remain realistic about the value of Internet-related businesses, according to Funmail founder Graham Goodkind. His company, which allows clients to choose their own electronic mail address from a list of more than 3,000, has been valued at 31.25 million pounds sterling, even though it has only been operating since May 1999. He is determined to remain focused on increasing user numbers, and is particularly looking to appeal to 12-to-24-year-olds.

Freeserve means business

Article Abstract:

There was very strong interest from private investors in the recent flotation of Internet service provider Freeserve. However, Freeserve is still not a profitable business, and it must prove that it can retain members and encourage them to spend money with its clients. The extensive publicity surrounding the Freeserve flotation has attracted attention to the UK Internet industry, and this will benefit domestic Internet businesses.
