Terror in the White House as Bill's friends turn against him

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton appears to be no longer able to control the scandal surrounding his affair with Monica Lewinsky. The turning point is likely to have been the decision by Senator Joseph Lieberman, one of Clinton's oldest friends, to sharply criticize Clinton's behaviour in public. White House officials fear that Lieberman's decision to turn against Clinton may prompt others to do so. Clinton can no longer rely on Democrats to reduce the impact in Congress of independent prosecutor Kenneth Starr's report of his investigation into him.

During Watergate, the writer Gore Vidal was quoted as saying he couldn't wait...

Article Abstract:

Bill Clinton's misdeeds are not as serious as those of Richard Nixon, according to Gore Vidal, author. Most American males have similar sexual tastes to Clinton, and would also lie about their actions. There is a case for trying prosecutor Kenneth Starr for treason since he is preventing Clinton from carrying out his job as President, which he was elected to do. The focus on Clinton's sex life has taken the focus away from politics, and where money comes from and what it is spent on, Vidal argues.

Hotel date led to Lewinsky's worst nightmare

Article Abstract:

Former White House intern Monica Lewinsky is coming under a great deal of pressure as evidence mounts that she was involved in a relationship with Bill Clinton. She was betrayed by Linda Tripp, with whom she worked at the White House and had come to regard as a close friend, and is now accused of having lied when she asserted in a sworn affadavit that she had not had any sexual involvement with Clinton. Her handling of this issue is likely to determine Clinton's political future.
