That great grudge match: TV vs Sport

Article Abstract:

Television coverage of major sporting events has been welcomed by many people, as it allows them to enjoy an event which they would be unable to attend in person. However, sports managers have always feared that extensive television involvement in sport will cut down on the numbers of people attending events. Now, sport and television are closely linked, and sport has become part of the wider broadcasting struggle between the BBC and deregulated or unregulated networks.

Palace played the tabloid press and lost a love match

Article Abstract:

The Royal Family began a more open relationship with the media in 1969 but since the publication of Andrew Morton's book 'Diana: Her True Story,' which permitted more candid disclosures, less deference has been shown. The book is significant because the princess's friends and family defended their contributions after publication. Public sympathy for Diana led to her survival as a member of the Royal Family.

Luvvies, the SAS of the arts

Article Abstract:

The failure of a play is different from the failure of a book, film or television programme because it is very public. Actors who are criticised in the media must still perform until their contract comes to an end, and must deal with the damaging impact of seeing audience numbers dwindle. This is mirrored currently in the experiences of those involved in Simon Gray's 'Cell Mates.'
