The European foreign exchange

Article Abstract:

Around 15,000 UK students now participate in the European Community Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (Erasmus) programme every year, gaining the opportunity to study at a university abroad for between three months and a year. However, some observers feel that many students are not fully prepared for spending time abroad, while students who have gone abroad report that arrangements have been unsatisfactory. Students from other countries seem to adapt better than their British counterparts to spending time abroad.

Kick-start for the A-level season

Article Abstract:

Students who are due to take A-leve exams in summer 1995 are under great pressure to achieve good marks, as there are few jobs available for school-leavers and there is very strong competition for university places. Some students may consider self-contained revision courses, which are now offered by state-funded colleges of further education as well as the traditional independent tutorial colleges, or 'crammers.' Easter revision courses are generally residential or day-based, and some can be extremely expensive.

From perfumery to pathology: take your pick

Article Abstract:

The UK's universities and colleges are constantly adding to the range of courses which they can offer students. This trend has been fuelled by the abolition of the traditional split between universities and polytechnics and by the need to adapt to the changing needs of a new student population. The growing number of mature students has had a particular influence on the type of courses being offered.
