The GM genie that will never go back in the bottle

Article Abstract:

There is still considerable controversy in the UK over genetically modified (GM) foods. Most recently, Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Robert May stated that he cannot consider the commercial growing of GM crops until at least 2003. However, government ministers have not been willing to agree to a moratorium on GM crops, indicating that commercial production could even begin following the first year of farm-scale field testing. Environmentalists believe that there could be serious risks associated with releasing GM organisms into the environment.
