The Holocaust left her orphaned, penniless and alone. Now she'll get just 400 pounds sterling from the Nazis' looted gold

Article Abstract:

The UK has generally treated the Jews who came as child refugees from Germany shortly before the second world war well, according to Lore Robinson, who arrived in the UK in 1939 at the age of 15. However, she has had to work extremely hard to earn enough money to survive. She will probably receive only around 400 pounds sterling from the 330,000 pounds sterling of a fund totalling 1 million pounds sterling established by the UK government for Holocaust survivors that will be distributed in the UK. The rest of the fund will go to survivors in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.

Germany and Russia must join this uncomfortable quest for the truth

Article Abstract:

It is a cause for considerable concern that Germany and Russia have not yet committed themselves to attending the international conference on Nazi gold in Dec 1997. This conference aims to bring together information about the historical facts relating to gold taken by the Nazis from countries and individuals, to look at the case for further compensation and to assess measures taken so far to compensate countries and individuals. It is vital that Germany and Russia now set aside self-interest in order to resolve this issue.

Swiss asked: 'Where is that stolen gold?' (UK government puts pressure on Switzerland to explain what happened to gold looted by Nazis)

Article Abstract:

It is believed that the Nazis held large amounts of looted gold in Swiss bank accounts, as well as in accounts in other neutral countries, including Sweden and Spain. Some observers now believe that the total held by the Nazis was much higher than the original estimate by the Allies of $550 million. The UK government is now putting pressure on Switzerland to explain what happened to the looted gold placed there by the Nazis.
