The Rev Professor Norman Whybray

Article Abstract:

Priest and Old Testament scholar Norman Whybray studied French and then Theology at Keble College, Oxford, England. He received ordination training at Lincoln Theological College, and was ordained deacon in the Church of England in 1946 and priest in 1947. He was appointed Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Central Theological College, Tokyo, Japan, in 1952, but returned permanently to England in 1965 to become Lecturer in the Dept of Theology at Hull University. He was a key figure in the British Society for Old Testament Study.

The Rev John Coventry SJ

Article Abstract:

Priest John Coventry became a novice at the Society of Jesus in 1932. He studied philosophy at Heythrop College in Oxfordshire, England, for three years, and was then sent to Campion Hall, Oxford, England, to read classical Greats. He was a school teacher for three years, and then undertook theological studies between 1945 and 1949. He was ordained in 1947, and became Jesuit Provincial in 1958. He was elected Master at St Edmund's House, Cambridge, England, in 1976.

The Rev Philip Caraman

Article Abstract:

Priest and writer Philip Caraman joined the Society of Jesus at Roehampton, England, in 1930. He read History at Campion Hall, and was ordained priest in 1945. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1956, and in 1959 was appointed vice-postulator of the cause for the canonization of the 40 martyrs of England and Wales. In 1968 he was requested to lecture in church history in the Westminster diocesan seminary.
