Mr Hague faces the strange death of Tory England

Article Abstract:

Politicians in the UK are finding it extremely difficult to predict the outcome of the forthcoming local elections. However, it is possible that the most significant gains will be made by the Liberal Democrats through retaining more marginal seats in traditional Conservative areas and taking seats in Labour's traditional industrial heartlands. This outcome would raise questions about the prospects of closer links between Labour and the Liberal Democrats. It would also revive debate about William Hague's leadership of the Conservative party.

The last thing we need is the return of Mr Mandelson

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair would be very misguided if he were to bring back Peter Mandelson to take charge of the Labour party's election campaigns. He must recognize that the poor outcome for the Labour party of the recent election to the European Parliament can be directly attributed to the strategy of Mandelson's wing of the party. It is now time to focus on the many disaffected Labour voters who may now start to be targeted by the Liberal Democrats.
