Article Abstract:

Advertisements encouraging people to give up smoking can sometimes be counter-productive. This is particularly the case with advertisements stressing the alleged health repercussions of smoking or indicating that smokers will feel better if they give up. For some smokers, the approach taken in advertising for the nicotine patch NiQuitin CQ may prove more effective. This advertising emphasized the fact that, although many smokers may wish to give up, they still enjoy smoking.

Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly widely recognized that counselling and therapy may not necessarily be effective. Indeed, some observers believe that counselling following traumatic events can actually cause further psychological damage. Others feel that counselling promotes a negative culture of dependency. A key problem is that counsellors are not required to have any formal qualifications. Even trained counsellors are only working from unproven theories.

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning new relationships formed by people whose partner has died are discussed. It is argued that some people need a new relationship soon after their bereavement, and that society should not regard them as uncaring towards their decease partner.
