Voodoo versus the NHS

Article Abstract:

Black people in the UK can be very unwilling to seek help from the National Health Service (NHS) for mental health problems. Psychiatrists report that black people often seek NHS help at a late stage, when their condition may have become chronic. In some cases, mental health professionals can delay treating black people because they attribute symptoms to cultural differences, rather than to genuine mental health problems. In other cases, belief systems can play a role in the delay in obtaining conventional medical help.

The gay community counts the blessings of a historic week on the street where terror struck

Article Abstract:

The gay community in London, England, has made significant progress since the mid-1980s. There are now many gay pubs, clothes shops and cafes in Soho, and gay men and women feel free to display affection in public. They have been given greater confidence by legal developments such as the House of Lords ruling paving the way for established gay couples to claim a range of family rights to which they were previously not entitled. However, gays feel that they are still battling against many injustices.
