The imperfect form of the new

Article Abstract:

Commercial motives are frequently behind modern building schemes, and these means that they usually have few links with local communities. Buildings are seen as little more the commodities, and modern economic constraints mean that there is no incentive to invest in ecological technologies. Architecture must now play a key role in reversing this trend, tailoring buildings to the needs of people and the environment in order to ensure that public life in cities is maintained.

Learning to live with the city

Article Abstract:

The world's urban population is increasing very rapidly, and as much as three-quarters of the population may live in cities within the next three decades. The environment is deteriorating under the pressure of pollution and the excessive consumption of resources, and these trends are also causing widespread social instability. However, cities can still play a significant role as healthy and civilizing environments as long as their development is properly managed.

Looking forward to Compact City

Article Abstract:

Cities are now home to half the world's population and account for at least 75% of global pollution. The urban population is expected to continue to rise rapidly, and many new city dwellers will be living in very poor conditions. Against this background, it is essential to develop interlinked social and environmental strategies, taking a new approach to the dense and diverse urban city.
