The integrity gap that undermines UK plc

Article Abstract:

The foundation of British government is shared values between electors and ministers but misjudgements in 1992 created a breach. The Bank of England did not imediately protect investors' interests in the Bank of Credit and Commerce International crisis because no laws seemed to have been broken. Government ministers should work above mininum standards to retain public respect. US politicians will have to sign a code of ethics. Ethics training is common in US companies and is beginning in the UK.

Libya undermines the myth of the special relationship

Article Abstract:

There has been a positive reaction in the UK to the decision to re-establish full diplomatic relations with Libya. In contrast, this decision has not been welcomed in the US. This highlights important aspects of the relationship between the US and the UK. This is not the first breach of unity between the UK and the US on international matters, and it must be remembered that the US and the UK have disagreed for a long time on a number of issues relating to the Libyan case.

Anatomy of a sting: how an MP was trapped

Article Abstract:

Conservative MP Piers Merchant initially claimed that his relationship with Anna Cox, an 18-year-old former nightclub hostess, was merely that of close friends. However, further media investigation revealed that she was in fact his mistress, and he was forced to resign. The true nature of their relationship was unveiled by the Sunday Mirror, which obtained audio and videotapes from Anthony Gilberthorpe, who had worked for Merchant in the mid-1980s as a researcher.
