The joke is the job

Article Abstract:

Comedians have to magnify their scepticism and draw on the anxieties of their audience, according to comedian Rich Hall. He is very certain about what seems funny to him, and therefore does not really worry about how his act will be received by the audience. He is not particularly ambitious, and is keen to avoid the problems which can come with becoming very well known. He seems to like to make it hard for people to get to know him, and almost seems proud of his inability to form relationships.

Almost forever young

Article Abstract:

Actress Jenny Agutter is very willing to accept that the film 'The Railway Children' played a key role in her career. This film gained her a part in 'The Snow Goose,' for which she won an Emmy, and also brought her to the attention of Peter Hall, who engineered her move to the National Theatre. She is not afraid of self-deprecation, and admits to having taken parts that other actresses have turned down. She has sometimes not taken time to wait for the right role to come along.

Double-gifted Dutchman

Article Abstract:

Musician and comedian Hans Liberg regards music as being central to his act, with music as the source of all his jokes. He shows particular talent for being able to hear the links between classical themes and contemporary music. He does not believe that originality exists in music, so does not hesitate to sample other people's work. He has been a leading comedian in the Netherlands since the 1980s, and is also very popular in France and Germany.
