The liberation technology

Article Abstract:

Multimedia integrates computer functionality with the power of television. It is used in business, museums, shops, schools and homes for training and leisure. Video is placed on computers and compact disc using compressed digital information. A new company Kaleida formed by Apple and IBM develops multimedia technology. Apple intend to enter the consumer electronics market by 1993 with 'Personal Digital Assistants' (PDAS). British Telecom Relate 2000 videophones will be available by the end of 1992.

Soft-hearted hardware on the way

Article Abstract:

The affective computing research group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab in Cambridge, MA, has for some time been looking at the possibility of equipping computers with emotions. The group's researchers aim ultimately to create a new generation of computers able to recognize and simulate emotions. Some observers believe that emotions may be the missing element in artificial intelligence, with feelings being a vital element of human intelligence.

Latest portable computers offer all the facilities which have traditionally only been available on desktop equipment. Indeed, Tillamook, the latest mobile processors from Intel, offer the same power as the most powerful 233MHz desktop Pentium chips. Laptop computers have a number of advantages over desktop models, especially in terms of the ease of adding extra features. Latest technology even makes it possible to connect a laptop to a PC without the use of cabling.
