The making of a traitor

Article Abstract:

Richard Tomlinson, who worked for the UK Secret Intelligent Service (MI6) between 1991 and 1995, seemed to be making rapid progress in his career as a spy. However, he was then dismissed from MI6 suddenly and without a satisfactory explanation. He was not prepared to accept this, and attempted to take MI6 to industrial tribunal. When this failed, he began to write a book about his MI6 experiences. He was jailed under the Official Secrets Act for six months. He now lives in Geneva, Switzerland, where he continues to pose a threat to national security.

Article Abstract:

UK Foreign Secretary Robin Cook has handed over to his Russian counterpart, Igor Ivanov, newly declassified files regarding the assassination of Tsar Nicholas II and his family in Jul 1918. These files were compiled by British diplomats and secret agents. They contain a great deal of encrypted correspondence between the Foreign Office and its representatives in Russia between 1918 and 1920. It is clear that the murder of the Tsar and his family was greeted with great shock by the British state.
