The most hated man in Britain has a good point about sanctions

Article Abstract:

Labour MP George Galloway has for many years been an extremely controversial figure. However, it is possible to argue that he is right to express opposition to sanctions against Iraq. Sanctions have served to strengthen Saddam Hussein's position, but have caused severe difficulties for millions of ordinary Iraqis. Saddam Hussein's associates have very tight control over Iraq, and this means that ordinary people will not protest against him, regardless of the pain which has resulted from sanctions. There are indications that the international community is now beginning to recognize this and to consider whether sanctions have been too brutal.

Taking the sting out of Bosnia

Article Abstract:

The UK has so far made no response at all to calls from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for 30 countries to take more refugees from Bosnia. This goes against the feelings of ordinary British people, most of whom believe that some humanitarian action should be taken. They feel ashamed that the government has done so little to help the Bosnian people, and believe that it is now time to allow some of them to escape to the UK.

The madness of Bosnia matters here

Article Abstract:

The west's approach to the war in Bosnia has been largely misguided, with ultimatums being issued with no intent of taking action if they are ignored. The aims of the Bosnian Serbs have been clear for some time, but western nations still choose not to take any firm action. It is now time for a more positive approach, recognising that the devastation of Bosnia could quite easily happen in another country.
