The relative value of mice and men

Article Abstract:

Animal rights campaigners are having an increasingly negative impact on medical research which may find treatment for currently incurable diseases, according to a UK patients' group known as Seriously Ill for Medical Research. This group undertook a survey of senior medical researchers, all of whom agreed that animal experiments have played a key role in many advances in medicine and physiology. Its members offer support to researchers who are under direct threat from animal rights attacks.

Who will come out fighting for Europe?

Article Abstract:

British pro-Europeans have been characterised by complacency and incompetence over the last year, while anti-Europeans have controlled the media and gained public sympathy. A number of expensive anti-European campaigns are being developed, and ordinary people are being misinformed about the financial and social implications of closer links with the European Union. In contrast, pro-Europeans have done very little to gain public support.

A cowardly business

Article Abstract:

Politicians from all parties in the UK who are keen to see the country establish closer links with continental Europe have failed to gain the support of key business leaders. The European Movement, for example, has very limited funding, and cannot afford to promote its cause in the same way as anti-European movements can. Almost all leading businessmen believe that the UK's future rest with Europe, but are unwilling to say so publicly.
