The restoration game

Article Abstract:

Leading Renaissance expert Professor Jack Wasserman is using deep computing technology to analyze Michelangelo's 'Florentine Pieta,' a very large piece of carved marble which Michelangelo attempted to destroy but was rescued by a student. The IBM Foundation has funded a project to produce an ultra-high-resolution virtual image of the piece. This involved taking around 10,000 digital images. It has been possible to establish that large portions of the statue are unfinished, and Wasserman believes that Michelangelo intended the piece to be a naturalistic depiction of the Deposition of Christ.

How to tackle cybercrime attacks

Article Abstract:

Computer hackers and virus writers can impose huge additional costs on businesses which have failed to take the necessary measures to protect their computer systems. Indeed, global losses in 1999 from major virus attacks are set to exceed $20 billion, according to security software concern mi2g. Hackers usually have a specific target, while viruses are indiscriminate and assume many different forms. Many companies do not wish to admit to having fallen victim to a hacker or a virus, and the problem is made worse by the fact that an attack can come from anywhere in the world.
