The reviled revolutionary

Article Abstract:

BBC Director General John Birt, who is to be replaced in 1999, has attracted considerable controversy. He has been accused of allowing television to dominate over radio and of placing too much emphasis on policy at the expense of programme-making. However, it is undeniable that he has ensured that the BBC has established a strong position in all the significant new broadcasting technologies. Furthermore, the BBC is in very good financial and political shape. Diversifying into new commercial ventures has allowed Birt to neutralize the argument that the BBC is wasting the value of its archive.

I'm sorry, I've been given the clues

Article Abstract:

It is becoming clear that many guests on radio and television quiz shows in the UK are given an indication in advance of what the questions will be. In some cases, they are even given assistance in advance with the answers. This is not necessarily a negative approach to show business management. In fact, preparing guests in advance creates a more relaxed, less competitive atmosphere that is more appealing to audiences.
