The sins of the fathers

Article Abstract:

'The Best Intentions' directed by Bille August and written by Ingmar Bergman won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992. Bergman has made many films showing hatred of fathers but this one allows sympathy for and understanding of a cruel man. It is based on Bergman's own parents but it is fiction interpreted by the producer, Bille August, the Danish Academy Award winner. Bergman selected the actress for the mother's role, Pernilla August-Ostergren but had no further involvement in directing the film. A four-part television series and a cinema version have been produced.

Warning: The Seven Deadly Sins might not damage your health

Article Abstract:

The Seven Deadly Sins may not be as bad for a person's health as has generally been assumed in the past, according to a recent article in the British Medical Journal by Dr Liam Farrell. Of all the sins, gluttony and lust are the least damaging to health. Lust fuels people's creative urges, while gluttony is the direct opposite of asceticism and at least has the virtue of not affecting others. Many psychologists now regard pride as a positive emotion, while even sloth can be positive, being only a sin in the eyes of those observing it.

The sins of my father

Article Abstract:

Martin Bormann Jr was extremely shocked to hear the news that his father, Hitler's most trusted lieutenant, had been sentenced to death in absentia at the Nuremberg trials in 1946. He cannot deny what his father did, and finds it impossible to stop thinking about him. He feels that his father was a good father, even though he did not see him very often. However, he also acknowledges that the Nuremberg death sentence on his father was correct.
