'The sooner she goes, the better.' (United Kingdom Secretary of State for International Development Clare Short)(Column)

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that Clare Short, the Secretary of State for International Development, is not an asset to the UK government. They feel that she has little understanding of overseas emergencies and that she shows egomaniacal tendencies. She has some attractive personal qualities, and behaves very differently from most other politicians. However, she is unpredictable and impetuous, and seems to have a misguided commitment to traditional Labour ideologies.

The Nobel art of picking winners

Article Abstract:

The 1995 Nobel Prize for Medicine and Nobel Prize for Literature have been awarded without controversy, and the awarding bodies hope that this will be the case with the remaining 1995 prizes, those for economics, physics and chemistry and peace. In the past, there has sometimes been considerable dissent about the choice of the prize-winners, especially in the case of the Nobel Prize for Medicine. The peace prize is also potentially an area of conflict.
