Time keeps on slipping

Article Abstract:

American composer Morton Feldman wrote some of the most profound music of the 20th century. His music is particularly notable for its quietness and its very slow pace. The great stillness of his music creates a sense of timeless contemplation. He produces an individual sound that seems to come from nowhere and hovers before slowly fading away. His work 'For Philip Guston,' which lasts for four hours, is receiving its UK premiere as part of the Planet Tree Music Festival at The Conway Hall in London, England.

Ear, ear, ear

Article Abstract:

Modern composers pay considerable attention to the creation of space and the location of sound in space. Indeed, these factors have become as significant as harmony, melody and rhythm. Composer Alvin Lucier, for example, believes that all rooms have a hidden melody, while La Monte Young creates energy in his work through his use of resonance. In his work 'Dream House: Seven Years of Sound and Light,' the sound part is made up of a single fusion of 35 sine waves stretched across 10 octaves.
