UK: RECORD PAY LEVELS FOR IT STAFF

Article Abstract:

According to UK labour market analysts, Incomes Data Services, the record demand for staff with skills in information technology (IT) is leading to a rise in pay for IT professionals. The scarcity of skilled workers is seeing people with Java programming knowledge earn between GB[pound] 40,000 and GB[pound] 60,000 annually with technical architects able to earn as much as GB[pound] 100,000. However, the high salaries and lack of qualified staff is leading to a situation where employers find it difficult to keep staff because of poaching, plus there are concerns the high wages could adversely affect the rate of inflation.

An everyday story of Malaysian folk

Article Abstract:

The popular British radio drama series 'The Archers' is being used as the basis for attempts to use radio drama to convey health education messages to rural communities in Cambodia. Senior staff from 'The Archers' have travelled to Cambodia to train local people as scriptwriters. They have emphasized that propaganda messages must be used sparingly, as it is the drama that will encourage people to continue listening. It is planned that the Cambodian version will begin broadcasting in Mar 1999.
