BT blocks floating off Cellnet

Article Abstract:

At present the mobile phone firm Cellnet is 60% owned by British Telecom, but speculation that BT want to buy up the other 40% stake that is owned by Securicor has been heightened by the news that an attempt by Securicor to float its stake has been blocked by BT. The sale of its 20% stake in the US telecoms firm MCI will soon net BT US$ 7bn and many experts believe that the new Labour governmenmt will be less opposed to BT taking full control of Cellnet than the last government was.
