UK: DIET DUST-THE SLIMMERS' PANACEA?

UK futures forecaster Foresight predicts a new type of slimming foods would work without people having to feel they are on a real diet which they often give up through boredom. A special diet dust could be sprinkled over food and help change people's moods to make them eat lees and fell better. 20% of British people are now obese.

UK: MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE TAKES OUT 'FOOD'

Article Abstract:

The word, 'food' is to be taken out of the Ministry of Agriculture's vocabulary and changed to 'farm produce' when the Food Standards Agency (FSA) comes into operation on 1 April 2000. The FSA is to take over consumer interest in food safety, whilst the ministry will keep consumer benefit as its focal point.

US: LOSSES REPORTED AT PILLSBURY

Article Abstract:

Under the requirements of US accounting principles regarding the sale of the unit to General Mills of the US, Diageo has revealed that its Pillsbury food unit reported losses of GB[pound] 94mn in the year to 30 June 2000. Diageo is due to report full results on 7 September 2000.
