UK: KNUTSFORD SHELVES RETAIL PLAN

Article Abstract:

Knutsford has had to shelve plans for a major acquisition in the retail market after Archie Norman's elevation to the front bench of the opposition Conservative Party. The UK-based acquisition vehicle's chairman, Nigel Wray, revealed on 20 March 2000 that the business will examine the e-commerce market instead, revealing that a business with major Internet potential rather than a so-called dot.com operation would be the preferred target. Tow opportunities valued at GB[pound] 50mn to GB[pound] 100mn apiece are under examination. Mr Norman was the chairman of UK-based supermarket chain, Asda, and his knowledge was regarded as crucial to Knutsford's efforts in the retail market.
