UK: REGULATOR EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER RAILTRACK

Article Abstract:

The rail industry regulator, Mr Tom Winsor has expressed concern over Railtrack's ability to complete the planned GB[pound] 2bn upgrade of the West Coast main line on time. Railtrack has been given until May 2002 to complete phase one of the upgrade to allow 125 mile per hour (mph) trains to use the line. The second phase, to enable 140mph trains to use the line should be completed by 2005. However, Mr Winsor has warned that the company may not meet this deadline, and could face legal action if it continues to refuse the supply of detailed plans for the project.
