UK: BOOKHAM REVEALS EXPANSION PLANS

Bookham Technology is planning London Stock Exchange and Nasdaq listings and is looking to raise GB[pound] 1bn in a flotation during 2000. The UK-based fibre optic component manufacturer, which posted a GB[pound] 16mn pre-tax loss in 1999, also plans to create 280 jobs and double manufacturing capacity as part of the expansion. Bookham specialises in ASOC technology and its customers include European and US telecoms equipment firms, while Cisco Systems and Intel are among its shareholders.

UK: SHARP RISE IN BOOKHAM SHARE VALUE

Article Abstract:

The UK fibre optic component company that specialises in photonics, Bookham Technology, saw its share value climb 150% on 11 April 2000. In dealing in the US, shares reached US$ 41.25, valuing the company at GB[pound] 2.8bn and raising expectations that it would enter the FTSE 100 in June 2000. Bookham managed to raise a total of GB[pound] 194mn as a result of the flotation.

UK: BOOKHAM TO SELL FEWER SHARES

Article Abstract:

Criticism from investors has caused directors of Bookham Technology, the optical components designer and manufacturer, to scale down a share placement. Some 11.2mn shares will now be sold as opposed to the 15.4mn originally decided on 6 September 2000. The placement of new shares will remain at 3.1mn, which will raise GB[pound] 99.3mn for the company. All shares are worth GB[pound] 33.50. Chairman and chief executive Andrew Rickman is to sell 1.217 shares, president Giorgio Anania sold shares worth GB[pound] 2.8mn and finance director Stephen Cockrell disposed of stock worth GB[pound] 2.3mn. 3i, the UK venture group reduced its stake by GB[pound] 106mn, and Scientific Atlanta sold GB[pound] 60m. US companies Intel and Cisco retained their 4.7% stakes.
