US: VIRGIN DEALT BLOW OVER CHICAGO SLOT

Article Abstract:

Virgin Atlantic Airways will have to stop its service to O'Hare airport in Chicago on 16 April 2000 after the US Department of Transportation agreed to extend winter slots for just two weeks on from the 2 April 2000 expiry date. The move involving the UK-based airline is seen as a new indication that conflict exists over air services between the US and UK, despite the fact that links between the two countries have resumed. US airlines are seeking increased access to London, while the UK is looking for increased US market share together with options for its airlines to purchase US assets.
