Marian Kratochwil

Article Abstract:

Artist Marian Kratochwil had a classical education in philosophy, and undertook one-to-one study with an experienced painter. This background was at odds with the situation in London, England, where he settled after the second world war. He was saved from a life of poverty by the fact that his talent was recognized by New Zealand painter Kathleen Browne, whom he eventually married, and Dame Ethel Walker. His drawings of rural life in eastern Poland are of great historial and aesthetic interest.
