Want training? Join an agency - but be quick

Article Abstract:

It is common in the UK for recruitment agencies to charge an employer a fee if somebody employed on a temporary basis through the agency is then offered a permanent position. These fees account for between 15% and 30% of the revenue of recruitment agencies. The Employment Agencies Act, to be considered in autumn 1999, may make it illegal for recruitment agencies to charge fees when a temporary employee is made permanent. If this is the case, then recruitment agencies may be forced to scale down the training they offer to those seeking temporary employment. Indeed, it may only be possible for them to take on people who are already fully trained.

Article Abstract:

Janine Warner, who is Jewish, feels that she would not marry outside her faith, even though she has had many non-Jewish boyfriends. She believes that she would not allow herself to fall in love with a non-Jew. Her father Keith believes that it is healthy that she socializes with a wide range of people, but feels that there is something special about the Jewish culture. He recognizes that it will be difficult for his daughter to meet a Jewish husband in Leeds, England, where the Jewish community is very small.
