What a great performance

Article Abstract:

Filmmaker Donald Cammell, who committed suicide in Apr 1996 at the age of 62, had been fascinated with death from an early age. He did not wish to die by accident, and had planned his suicide for some time. Superficially, he appeared to be a frustrated artist, having never really managed to repeat the success of his first film, 'Performance.' However, his career had not come to an end, and he remained charming and enthusiastic. He only succeeded in completing three films in almost 20 years in Hollywood, but wrote many scripts.

Article Abstract:

Young film-goers today are generally totally unaware of the older generation of film-makers such as Michelangelo Antonioni and Ingmar Bergman. Relatively few foreign films are now distributed in the UK, and they are not shown very often on terrestrial television. Furthermore, young film-makers tend to more influenced by Hollywood than by European art cinema. Older film-makers tend to focus on quality, and therefore tend to produce films which lack real action and are therefore unappealing to young audiences.

Like father, like son. Well, almost

Article Abstract:

Lack of time and resources can make India filmmakers extremely inventive, according to actor Om Puri. He particularly admires the inventiveness of Satyajit Ray's 1981 television film 'Sadgati,' in which he played a shoemaker. He feels that Ray's ability to exploit opportunities has made him a great filmmaker. He believes that, as an actor, he has tried to work in the same way.
