When I grow up, I want to be ...

Article Abstract:

School careers advisers believe that it is important to encourage children to explore their own ideas about possible career paths. This can be done through self-awareness exercises and through drawing up a personal learning plan. Some schools make use of the experience of former pupils, and many establish links with local companies which can offer work experience schemes. In some cases, it can be helpful if children are introduced gradually to the terms which are used in the world of work.

An unbeatable offer: a five-star professor

Article Abstract:

Research funds are granted to universities according to a quality ratings system. This makes lower status universities try to improve performance in some departments instead of generally. Researchers are pressurised to go to conferences and publish in quantity. The Higher Education Funding Council allocates varied research funds which are used for equipment, time and people. Universities capitalise on their strengths in an attempt to upgrade their next research ratings.
