When home sweet home is just loan, loan, loan

Article Abstract:

A recent case in which the Halifax building society was obliged to allow a couple to sell their home on the open market for a fair price, despite the fact that the couple owed a large amount of money, has been hailed as a breakthrough for homeowners facing problems with negative equity. However, this may not prove to be the reality. Few borrowers have taken advantage of existing rescue schemes offered by lenders, and those in arrears are unlikely to ever be able to pay the money back.

How to scale the market peaks

Article Abstract:

There are a number of factors that should be taken into account when selecting a financial adviser. It is important to establish whether the adviser is genuinely independent, and it must be determined who the adviser is regulated by. It is worth checking the adviser's professional qualifications and seeking proof that the adviser's claims about fund performance are true. It is important to be cautious about becoming involved with a financial adviser whom you find hard to understand.

Taxmen give notice on redundancy pay

Article Abstract:

The UK Inland Revenue is drawing up plans to tax payments in lieu of notice made to employees who are made redundant. At present, failing to tax these payments is losing the Inland Revenue around 1.5 billion pounds sterling a year. Under current regulations, employees do not have to pay tax on the first 30,000 pounds sterling of a redundancy payment. Many employers are now seeking ways of avoiding this new approach to the taxation of redundancy payments.
