When the monarchy went into showbiz

Article Abstract:

The British monarchy has been increasingly portrayed in showbusiness terms over recent years, with constant media intrusion having turned it into a source of entertainment and robbed it of its serious role. This culminated in the recent television interview of the Princess of Wales, in which her comments served to undermine the British constitutional system. It can no longer be taken for granted that the monarchy can survive any amount of commercial exploitation, and it is now time to look very carefully at what system the British people really want.
