Whenever you get that sinking feeling, get busy

Article Abstract:

The film 'Titanic' can be seen as a metaphor for mortality, according to James Cameron, the film's director. He has developed a life philosophy that covers every sort of death, and believes that he would simply keep busy if he found himself on a sinking ship, rather than going into shock. He has an instinctive understanding of film-making as a technological process, and often deals with technological themes. He is willing to take great risks, and this has sometimes meant that he has attracted criticism.

Looking at the horizon to see what lies beyond

Article Abstract:

People are more vibrant and interesting if they are unwilling to be tied down by conventions, according to filmmaker Iain Softley. In 'The Wings of the Dove,' he carefully avoids being constrained by period detail and tells a love story with which young people of the modern age can identify. He shows very strong interest in the sensuality behind the public face, and his characters present a sense of going against the tide. In his own life, the desire to be a filmmaker was also going against convention.

Scandinavia's answer to 'Trainspotting.' (film-maker Nicolas Winding Refn)

Article Abstract:

Film-maker Nicolas Winding Refn regards himself as an infiltrator in the conventional social system. He aims to inspire people with his films and to show people his faith in them, rather than shocking or offending them. His film 'Pusher' was highly acclaimed, but he turned down the opportunity to re-make it for the US market. He believes that re-making a film shows that you have no respect for that film or for the art of film-making.
