Where Buddha meets Babylon

Article Abstract:

The film 'Kundun,' which tells of the early years of the Dalai Lama, is extremely unusual in its casting. It uses 400 non-professional actors from Tibetan settlements in Switzerland, the US and India who enact their own life story. Director Martin Scorsese encouraged the extras to regard the film as their own, and wanted them to behave as true Tibetans. The film has a very strong emotional impact, but those aware of the situation in Tibet know that the film also needs to be powerful politically, encouraging China to ease its hardline policy on Tibet.

After 50 years of Communism, China is on the brink of another revolution

Article Abstract:

China has seen significant economic development under the influence of a series of economically reformist leaders. However, economic development has brought serious difficulties, including social conflict and environmental pollution. Politically, China has become a significant world power, and is contributing to stability in the Asia-Pacific region. As the 21st century approaches, China faces a range of challenges, including a lack of values in society and an inadequate vision of its place in the world.

Chinese pervert Tibet's spiritual power

Article Abstract:

China is using economic progress as a cover for its attack on the spiritual life of Tibet. This is particularly the case at key Tibetan sites such as Jokhang temple in the centre of old Lhasa and the Potala hilltop palace. In Lhasa, prostitution is openly tolerated, and many bars and other places of entertainment have been set up. There are now many Chinese settlers in Tibet, and many more are arriving all the time.
