Why Alice had to leave wonderland

Article Abstract:

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have been forced to move out of Barnwell Manor, a country property with 30 rooms and 12 acres of grounds, as they can no longer afford to maintain it. This is just one example of the UK's aristocrats having to abandon costly country estates. Since 1973, around 710 country estates have been sold by aristocrats, and now only 1,400 remain. There are now more potential purchasers around as the property market starts to revive, and this is proving attractive to aristocrats who are not receiving government support to move into commercial projects.

Not like it was in Mrs Danvers' day

Article Abstract:

The role of the housekeeper has changed considerably over recent years. The job now includes many more roles as families try to economise by not employing other domestic staff. It can be very physically and emotionally demanding, especially when relations with the employer are strained. Housekeepers have traditionally worked almost exclusively for the aristocracy, but there is now greater demand from ordinary families, especially if they have young children.

The writer's new clothes

Article Abstract:

A previously unknown manuscript written by Louisa May Alcott in 1866 has recently been published as 'The Chase.' It is written in a highly romantic and sentimental style which is generally not praised by critics today, but in fact has been received very warmly. It has already entered best-seller lists, and there are plans to make it into a film. It was discovered by headmaster Kent Bicknell, who transcribed it into a publishable form.
