Why I have to hurt myself

Article Abstract:

People who feel the need to mutilate their own bodies in order to release inner turmoil and pain are often regarded negatively by medical professionals, according to Sharon LeFevre. She used self-mutilation as a way of dealing with the turmoil created within her by years of sexual, physical and mental abuse. She sought professional help, but found that she was forced to agree not to injure herself if she was to receive counselling. She is gradually controlling her need to self-mutilate, and runs workshops in accident and emergency departments across the UK.

Why did Paula want to die?

Article Abstract:

It seems that Paula Yates's suicide attempt was closely linked with the successful suicide in Nov 1997 by Michael Hutchence, her intended husband. It is possible that she was trying to get closer to him, especially as she chose the same method of suicide. She had also been made vulnerable by discovering who her real father was, by her divorce from Bob Geldof and by the fact that the man she believed to be her father suffered from manic depression. These factors have led to her becoming haunted by the fear of abandonment.

Girls just want to have fun

Article Abstract:

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) operates double standards when deciding how to classify films showing teenage sexuality. Films showing sexuality among teenage girls are more likely to receive the NC-17 rating than films showing sexuality among teenage boys. The MPAA states that this approach reflects the standards of parents in the US. There are few teenage films that show teenage girls' sexuality in its own terms, instead of for the pleasure of boys.
