Why Mr Masari is good for us

Article Abstract:

Campaigners working with Saudi dissident Mohammed al-Masari, who is seeking asylum in the UK, want to establish an Islamic republic. Within this structure, members of the clergy would be only advisers, while both men and women would be permitted to elect politicians democratically. Only Islamic parties committed to ruling the country by Islamic beliefs would be allowed to stand. The main impact of this movement in the UK is to test liberal values to the extreme. Its views go against those of western democracy, but the UK, as a supporter of free speech, must allow al-Masari to remain.

We lost, but Son of SDP will win

Article Abstract:

The Social Democratic Party's progress was hampered by divisions, and it failed to become a very strong force in its own right. However, it was been successful enough to cause concern to the Labour party, and it could be said that its main achievement was to produce a Labour leader, Tony Blair, who is forced to subscribe to many social democratic values. Indeed, some former Social Democratic Party Liberal Democrats are now considering returning to the Labour party.

Happy families: a game of charades

Article Abstract:

Many observers are currently expressing concern about the growing incidence of family problems such as divorce, birth outside marriage and single parent families. However, it must be remembered that even worse problems existed in the past, and the past should not be held up as an example to modern society. Today, most families with children are still headed by both natural parents, and society is in many ways better than in the past.
