Why can't Mr Hague be more like Mr Blair - and vice versa?

Article Abstract:

All the declarations UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is now making about Europe can be interpreted as advocacy for the UK being a member of European monetary union. However, Blair takes great care not to commit himself irrevocably or to make definite promises about a referendum on this issue. It seems that there is a part of Conservative party leader William Hague trying to get out when Blair talks about Europe, while Hague seems to want to express some of the views conventionally associated with Blair. It is now time to recognize that Blair is not a full-scale Europhile, while Hague is not completely Eurosceptic.

Anti-Americanism blinds the left to what's at stake

Article Abstract:

Many left-of-centre commentators in the UK have called for extreme caution in supporting the US in retaliating against those responsible for the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Claiming that no action should be taken can be seen as a convenient way of concealing instinctive anti-Americanism.
