EU fat cats shared the rich cream of patronage with their pet cronies

Article Abstract:

There is great tension within the European Commission as detailed questions are raised about the ethics of its Commissioners and the culture in which they work. Revelations of possible corruption among Commissioners have highlighted the way in which the European Commission as a whole has been guilty of neglecting public perception. There are also rivalries among individual Commissioners, and this will make it difficult for them to make unified decisions about how to react to accusations of abuse of power.

Why has it taken 25 years and Europe's best minds to invent a name for chocolate?

Article Abstract:

The UK has been in dispute with the European Union about the ingredients of chocolate and exactly what is permitted to be called chocolate since 1973. However, the European Commission has now been able to push through a compromise. Under this deal, chocolate with a maximum 5% of vegetable fat will be sold throughout the European Union with the words 'contains vegetable fats in addition to cocoa butter' on the packaging. Within domestic markets, milk chocolate, containing 20% milk, will be sold as such. When exported, this chocolate will be called 'family milk chocolate.'
