Why patenting this face could help boost celebrity fortunes

Article Abstract:

The Princess of Wales Memorial Fund is seeking to have 26 photographs of Diana, Princess of Wales, registered with the Patent Office. This means that there would be significant restrictions on the use of photographs of her on merchandising, thus preventing a glut of cheap merchandising. A decision on the trademark application will take around six months. Photographers who have taken their own photographs of Diana, Princess of Wales, would be able to use these for newspaper coverage, but may find that they will not be able to use them on merchandising.
